What is Balvatika?

Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Balvatika is a 3‑year pre‑school (pre‑primary) education programme for children aged 3 to 6 years. It forms the core of the Foundational Stage in the new 5+3+3+4 school structure. Its primary goal is to prepare children cognitively, physically, and linguistically before they enter Grade 1.

Structure & Age Criteria

Balvatika‑1

For children aged 3 to 4 years
Equivalent to Nursery

Balvatika‑2

For children aged 4 to 5 years
Equivalent to LKG

Balvatika‑3

For children aged 5 to 6 years
Equivalent to UKG / Preparatory Class

Upon completing Balvatika‑3, the child transitions directly into Grade 1 at the age of 6.

Curriculum and Teaching Methodology

The curriculum strictly follows the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) guidelines established by NCERT, ensuring there is no formal academic pressure.
